Re 'No AI in Humor': if it's true that laughter is an interrupted defense mechanism, obviously the robots would not understand it, since they have no psychological defense mechanisms - no 'ego' to defend - whatever defense mechanisms they may have (like the Third Law of Robotics) are purely practical, and standing them down if they'd been triggered in error would not be 'funny'.

Did you ever read Heinlein's The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress? It's so dated since the invention of the microprocesser; nobody any more can conceive of a computer that takes up whole rooms; and yet it's one of the earliest (and most poignant) tales of an AI 'awakening' into self=awareness, and coming to understand the concept of humor.

Yes, it's one of the few Heinlein books I can stand. In fact, I even enjoy it.
