I want to do holiday_wishes
Dec. 8th, 2018 11:23 pmBut I don't want to only ask for paid things like a re-up of my account, my enormous-and-growing Amazon wishlist, and a new roof. (I'm not asking Dreamwidth to replace my roof.)
What all else can/should I ask for?
Edit: Sooooooo here's my list. (With some commentary!)
1. Obligatory Amazon wishlist. This started as my effort to get hoarded boardgames and puzzles (and three seasons of Teen Titans) out of "save for later" and it just sort of... got out of control. Many of these games are a lot cheaper off of eBay or Boardgamegeek, and I'm plenty happy to get them from there or anywhere instead of Amazon. New, used, I don't care. Just let me know so I can take it off the list. I don't care about being surprised, not even a little bit. (If you do purchase off of Amazon, for me or for anybody, please use the smile.amazon.com link instead and donate a smidge to charity at the same time!)
2. New-to-me jigsaw puzzles. I don't know about you, but I don't like redoing jigsaw puzzles, so they sit on the shelf until I give them away. If you're in the same situation, I'd be thrilled to have your cast-offs, preferably 750 pieces and higher.
3. Replacement train cards for Ticket to Ride/Ticket to Ride Europe. We suffered a catastrophic game disaster and somehow we ended up with a partial set of little cards and a partial set of big ones. (I also think we must be missing some of the ticket cards to both games as well, but the shortage is less there.) The game is playable, but it's a little ridiculous.
4. Donations to Cityharvest or a food bank that's local to you.
5. Plush squeaky dog toys, especially the sort that are low stuffing or that go into other toys (like squirrels in a log or mice in a cheese wedge). Our chihuahua is very hard on her toys! (Our poodle isn't, but then he can't play with the toys either.)
6. New cardboard cat scratchers. We also have cats. Three of them. They don't share.
7. Materials to make a feral cat shelter. We had to ditch ours due to damage, and meanwhile our feral porch cat is shivering! And I've just been putting it off and putting it off because the construction is a hassle, but if I had the stuff staring me in the face I'd have to work with it. She's a sweetie other than the fact that she's feral and therefore won't let anybody get within six feet of her without fleeing. She even greets the people who feed her! (Just, you know, from a distance.) Or you can fulfill this wish by making a feral cat shelter for a feral or friendly stray cat in YOUR neighborhood... and double points if you TNR the kitty at the same time.
8. Loaned kindle books! I'm very interested in sci-fi and fantasy, and always happy to read middle grade and YA fiction. All these are better if they're diverse. If you have a book on your kindle that's eligible for lending, and I haven't read it yet, I'd be glad to give it a shot! I read pretty darn fast. (Gifted kindle books are okay too, naturally, but really, loaned is good enough.)
9. An end to global warming. Okay, so you can't do that exactly - but if you commit to making a step towards lowering your footprint or, better yet, contacting the big company/government figure of your choice and asking them to make a concrete step in that direction then we can call this wish fulfilled.
10. For anybody in the NYC area, I'd love to meet up and go to a game night. I want to expand the group of people I play games with past my own family... but every time I hear about one and plan to go, the social anxiety squirrels attack and either I don't get there or I do get there and end up awkwardly pretending I didn't come to play games at all, I came to sit in Whole Foods reading a book by myself. I am holding out hope that if people I've actually spoken to plan to go there with me I might be able to break the cycle. There's one on Staten Island next month. I know, Staten Island, but it has the advantage of being in a place I go to often and also being super close to the boat. Plus they have good pie. And it's right before my birthday! Or if you know of another meetup in Manhattan or only a few stops into Brooklyn, that'd be great too.
It's not great, but it's not too awful. Lots of tangible things, though. But at least I refrained from asking for major construction!
What all else can/should I ask for?

Date: 2018-12-05 06:12 am (UTC)They should make Count Socks in walker's calves sizes. Then I could buy some fun socks and think of Clint Barton having a pair.
