I better start using my light box. I don't know that it improved my functioning last year, but it certainly improved my mood (or anyway, compared to other years, it at least didn't hurt).

Light boxes are *wonderful*. I can't survive winter without my dawn simulator. It's a timer attached to a full-spectrum lamp, that kicks in at 6:30 and slowly ramps to full brightness by 7:00.

I think light boxes are more effective on mood than anything else. So it's great that it works for you!

You might want to check your computer's clock. Your post is dated Sept 24th, which hasn't happened yet.

Also the Equinox isn't until 001:54 UTC on the 23rd. That's 18:54 PDT on the 22nd. 19:54 MDT, 20:54 CDT and 21:54 EDT.

So it doesn't happen until tomorrow evening.

https://www.archaeoastronomy.com/ has nice diagrams and explanations.

I've noticed. You're the only one on my list who consistently posts from the future (lemme borrow the time capsule when you get a chance, btw - thanks).

I have a multi-spectrum lamp right above my seat in the living room; sometimes I wonder how I got through winters without it.

Oh! Thanks for the unwitting reminder that I should dig out my light box!

We have an AeroGarden grow lamp thingy that I've grown attached to year-around for daylight in a room that otherwise mostly gets shade. I'm wondering if it has the same spectrum of light as the lightbox, and is therefore therapeutic for us to keep on as well, but either way, I've gone from hating it the first year or so to wondering why I like it so much.
