Sad thing is, I don't know the person it's for. She certainly does not live here.

I would be really interested to know how US citizen got caught up in the mess. Not because I'm dubious, but because I'm horrified by the implications for Americans of Hispanic and Latin descent.

Didn't you know? They've been deporting US citizens who look Hispanic for more than 100 years!

Including some mass deportations where they just gathered up anybody who looked "Mexican" and hauled *thousands* across the border with no attempt to see if they were citizens or not.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_Repatriation

And if you follow the right sources a case or two hits the news every year. Not having your ID on you, or having ID that the ICE agents think "looks fake" and you get dumped across the border.

Due process? What's that?

Among other things, you aren't entitled to a lawyer in immigration hearings (if you even *get* a hearing)

In addition to that, they're now working on ways to revoke naturalization. This is ethnic cleansing, pure and simple, and the eventual goal is a lily-white USA.

You should insinuate that you do know something, if only to increase your potential to get in over your head with femme fatales and men who spend far too much time smoking in front of Venetian blinds. The state of the world is just so horrifying that you need an escape.

I like the mystery vending machine story.

As for blackberries, there are wild ones growing on the grounds where I work. Our maintenance guy shares them with me when he goes out to do the well testing. He picks whatever is ripe and brings it back and we split it!

"One story claimed Von Steuben loved to host cocktail nights for his favorite cadets... no clothing allowed."

Wow, rev war historical reenacting just got so much more interesting.

Kit also got way easier. At least for the men.

Yeah. Just like it's never deliberate when a "Best X" booklist contains only books by white men. That's just the way it came together.

That sort of thing at least has plausible deniability and is entirely subjective.

Who authors a book is not a subjective opinion, but an objective – and checkable – fact.

Which pushes this incident into a different ethical realm. Now we're talking about journalistic integrity.

This isn't just about some men didn't feel women were good enough to be included. This is a man sanding off the woman's credits to misrepresent what he was reporting on.

This is the sort of "oops" that should get a reporter fired. And I've suggested as much to NPR's ombudsperson – who handles complaints about journalistic integrity.

I recommend everyone else do too.

Yeah, that's an mistake in the sense that licking a live lightbulb socket is a mistake: it was bad judgment, sure, but it in no way was accidental.

Many years ago at my condo I used to get calls for a Ms. X. Never heard of her before, and she wasn't the previous occupant (who was a convicted felon). Finally I asked why everyone was looking for her: multiple credit card fraud. I explained that I had just gotten this landline Y years ago, and the calls stopped.
