You're a sinister government operation. Last year, at least one of your scientists was killed in the elevator because the doors closed too slow. Do you think that maaaaaaaybe, in case of emergency, your elevators should be built with backup manual gates? Get in, close gate, wait for door to close and maybe the marauding monster from the Upside Down won't get you. (Of course it will, it's in the script, but you won't look half as silly.)

And I do mean guys this time, by the way. Even back in benighted 1984, some women were doctors. When we've got the whole panel of docs, would it kill the casting agency to make just one of them female and/or non-white? Even if that's realistic... and I'm not so sure it is! - there's no reason we have to be martyrs to historical accuracy. Honestly!

Edit: Is it wrong I just shed a few tears over Dart? Poor thing deserved a happy ending. Power of love should've saved it or it should've made it through the gate or something.

Edit again: Is that amount of foliage normal for Indiana in early December?

For the last question - I don't need to have seen the show, even. (Which is a good thing, because I haven't.) Unless they're evergreens of some sort, there is nowhere in Indiana that the trees are not deciduous. In early December, even in the very southernmost part of the state (and I have lived there), "normal" is bare branches.

Oh, but, but...this is a Sooper Modern Seekret Scientifick Facility, (or so I assume). Manual elevator gates are so...so...mundane! So late 19th century department store! So...practical! (/snark)

It sort of reminds me of the mindset where NASA spent more money than I will ever see in a lifetime to develop a pen that would write in space, only to have a cosmonaut say, "We... just... use... a... pencil?"

Amusingly enough, my mother was graduated from medical school in the late 70's, along with her two best friends (one lesbian, one gay), and she had the option of working in the Kokomo/ Perdue area, Little Rock, or Chicago. They all chose Chicago, because that gave them the option of pioneering in the field of, "Aw, hell to the naw, they call sushi bait out there." So, yeah, possibly realistic based on my very-particular reality, but no, that "realism" comes not only at the expense of diversity but an implied very-interesting backstory, and I'm not a fan.

HAhaha.

I'm not sad about Dart 'cause of the cat thing, which is not really his fault but in the same way, I'm sick of that being a trope in horror.

Thank you both.

#vengeanceforcupcake (Different show, yeh. Still. Been edging toward cliché for a WHILE, now.)

*flails*

The creepy Elevator To The Otherworld in Kingdom Hospital has a manual gate! Didn't do much good, because monsters kinda go where they want, but it was there!

Honestly, it didn't even occur to me to wonder about the gate. Maybe it didn't fit with their futurey aesthetic? Although it would be low-key hilarious if someone decided to do a one-shot Fanfic of a board meeting where they discuss the importance of installing a manual gate at all their evil science labs from now, to prevent any further such accidents.

I did wonder about the casting though. Bare minimum, guys. Much as I love this show, they can do better.

I also felt bad for poor Dart. He was not a good kitty, but he was a loyal kitty, and he deserved better.

I never even thought about the elevator issue (probably because s.1 and s.2 being released a year apart meant I had forgotten everything that didn't make it onto Tumblr in the meantime). I'm sure it's another sign of White Male Scientist arrogance in assuming the problem would not occur again and would never evolve or escalate.

I felt way worse for Dart than I should have. Perhaps too many fanfics about Cerberus being Such A Good Boy have left me convinced hellhounds are trainable and make wonderful pets.

LMFAO OH MY GOD. XD

No, I loved Dart. And yes, that amount can be normal in Southern IN for December. In fact, the wife and I have been ASTONISHED about how amazingly accurate the whole setting is for a southern IN town

Your knowledge of southern IN is probably (okay, almost certainly) considerably more recent than mine. I last lived in southern Indiana about 35 years ago.

LOL! That describes 90% of the state now, let alone in 1983-4!

Wife's from Elliotsville, southern IN. I'm from South Bend, northern IN.

It looks just like about oh, 80% of the southern Indiana area, just fewer churches in Stranger Things than in reality.

They had the hills that cut about halfway up the state that really changes the snow. You can get some ice storms that are vicious south of the Purdue area, but they didn't get anywhere near the snow we did.

I've had snow up to my roof before as a kid. (late 80s)

Nope, I was also very very sad for Dart. It wasn't his fault! He didn't know cats weren't for eating! Poor monster boy.
