Feral kitten mama had another batch

I joked around with the vet about kidnapping them, but I wouldn't do that. Firstly, because it's overkill - the kittens aren't maltreated, they're just there and Mama needs to be fixed. Secondly, because that yard is a postage stamp and I'm pretty sure the guy who lives there would spot me if I camped out with a cage. I'll just talk to him, scoop them all up (judging from the mewling they're about a month old now, I didn't actually spot them) and TNR the lot. R right back into his yard if he likes. If I time it right the whole process shouldn't take more than a few weeks. I just need to find a secure location to stash them while they recover so my family doesn't kill me....

She's been outside more lately, because it's nice out. Eva has industriously shoved a baby gate on her door to keep the dogs out, though, which helps when the cat's inside. She's only friendly with humans... and the dogs don't help matters. And by "the dogs" I mean "Finn".

Haven't heard from last year's ferals, but then, I haven't asked. It was a friend-of-a-friend situation, really.

When we TNRed a bunch of ferals, the vet had us release them the evening of the same day as they were fixed. Which seemed horrid, but they all did well.

For reasons (*mutters darkly*), pretty much all of my spayed cats were released back into the Outdoors as soon as they came home. (Now I have Indoor Only cats, because I AM AN ADULT AND MY CATS GET TO BE INSIDE.) They all did fine from that, really. Set up a nice comfy lair for them and they'd probably be fine. (Or ask if the vet can hang onto them for a few hours, maybe.)

Most people aren't willing to keep ferals indoors for a full week, and my guess is that the added stress of being near humans for that long isn't beneficial to the healing process for ferals. For toms you can release right away, and for queens it's advised to keep them at least overnight if you can.

The masculinity article raises an excellent point. I distinctly remember boys being allowed to participate in gender neutral activities in the 80s that are heavily gendered now. Any veering away from "for boys" marketing feels downright subversive today.

The county fair article is correct. I've gone to the Iowa state fair a few times,and it's hard to find a whiter crowd anywhere else.

I'd give Trump a list of people who've been *killed* by the police (and other folks) and ask him just how he is going to "pardon" *them*.

It's at least as much about the *police* not being held accountable as it is about unfair sentences.
