I HATE tabs. I am too use to clicking the X in the upper right corner. So, I always override tabs and force new pages to open in a new window so that when I X out, I don't accidentally close out of everything.

But can't you set your browser to warn you before you close multiple tabs? That's what I did, and now if I want to know how many tabs I have I just go to close the window and then it tells me "Warning, you're about to close 5134 tabs" and then I know.

At the moment 5+5, because I'm using two different browsers : I use Chrome for accounts that use my real name and Firefox for accounts that use my fannish ID. I also only do google searches in my 'fannish browser' to confuse the algorithms :D

(My tab count also doesn't accumulate because I don't save tabs and so I have a clean slate every time I open my computer)

Two on my work browser (email and project management). 12 on my 'other' browser at work, about half misc tech stuff, half stuff I'm reading right now.

At home, about half a dozen, about half stuff I keep meaning to come back, half stuff I was reading this morning.

But on my phone, about 150. I do periodically close them out (or transfer them to a 'random shit I might want to read' bookmark folder), but have't quite mastered the art of saying "if it's more than a week old, it probably doesn't matter" :)

If the browser gets slow I close it and reopen, and I don't load all the tabs - I just load them as I read them.

Same here. It stresses me out to have more than five open at one time, and if there are more than eight, I'll ignore whatever interesting new link comes my way until I've gotten rid of at least one of the tabs. I honestly don't know how people manage with double-digit numbers of tabs!

That sucks, having a non-functional critical appliance. I'd feel the same if I found my microwave non-functional if I went to heat my oatmeal some morning. I did actually encounter the exact same situation recently: I was getting things together on a Saturday night for a Sunday afternoon gaming session for which I was going to make pasta, which requires my Cuisinart, and discovered that my food processor was broken! The bowl is store detached from the base, and it fell off the shelf, and I didn't bother inspecting it when I put it back. Turned out that the lid broke, which meant it couldn't engage the safeties which meant it wouldn't work.

So I had to drive down to Alamogordo in the vain hope of finding something decent at Walmart, and failing that, probably 3+ hours driving to Las Cruces and back with almost zero error time margin.

And Walmart had a $100 Cuisinart. Worked great, gaming session was saved, didn't have to drive across the basin.


And I have 21 windows of tabs open, absolutely no idea how many tabs that represents but certainly more than 100.

Happily, the oven works without the glass plate. I just use the metal plate that doesn't rotate - or, since I can't find it, I invert a metal cake pan over the rotating part - and remember to open the oven periodically to manually rotate whatever's inside.

This doesn't work so well when using it as a microwave, though, because metal.

That is... more than I prefer, I'm trying to chip away to get them down to a manageable amount, but as long as I don't have to scroll to see them all, I'm not too pressed.

I only answered for my phone, which I'm on at the moment, and where I have 82 Firefox tabs and 44 Chrome tabs. On my home computer I got it down to one window recently (maybe 30-80 tabs?) and on my work computer, it doesn't really go below 10 and can go as high as hundreds.

How do I manage this many tabs? I don't. For fun reading I save probably a thousand things a month to Pocket as a convenient anti-anxiety memory hole (if I really needed it, I could find it!). At work, I try to clean up every few weeks.
