There's no such thing as naturally orange cheese

YES! Thirty years ago, I broke some poor grocery store clerk in Marin County, CA, by asking if there was cheddar without added dyes in it. They were like, "All of our cheese is pure and does not have additives!" And I'm like, "Of course it does. All your cheese is orange." And they're like, "Huh?"

Me: "What is cheese made of?"
Clerk: "...milk?"
Me: "Right. And what color is milk?"
Clerk: 0_0 "OMG"
Me: Picks up random block of orange cheese. "Right. See the ingredients? 'and artificial coloring'. They're all like that. Because no natural cheese is orange."

I remember the day I had that same realization about the color of milk vs. cheddar cheese.

The real question nobody ever addresses is why we've decided that "white cheddar" crackers or whatever are the tangy version of regular cheddar snacks when actual white and orange cheddars taste the same.
