That is all.

The spouse and I were discussing movies, turns out Coco is in town for another week, but a whole bunch of other stuff is opening that we want to see. She's working Friday, which is the first night that I can see something, and I won't see it without her, so I guess I'll pick up some marginal sushi, finish up one movie and find something else silly to watch.

What's your take on how Coco would play to a 4yo who's been pondering death and what it means to those around them for a year? (Said 4yo often wants a reassuring grownup presence for the season openers and closers of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, but finds the rest of the episodes not scary.)

Gotcha. Thanks.

TBD does understand the difference between things in stories and things that are real, and is via several avenues starting to cope with how to different people different things are and are not stories, and that different, contradictory stories are sometimes told about real things.

There's a big Dia de los Muertos shindig in town, well attended by both Latinos and Anglos. If it comes up, it will not be hard to adopt our customs to include it.

Absolutely, childrens' literature is political as all get-out, and the politics in a lot of it is pretty odious. Sheesh, don't get me started about Beatrix Potter (who was probably a Death Eater anyway.)

This is why I brought my kid up on ElfQuest (https://elfquest.com/). She basically learned to read from it, because I read her those books over and over and over during the long winters when it was too cold to do much but huddle by the woodstove or snuggle in bed. Damn straight, ElfQuest is political, and it helped instill some of her most important values, like loyalty to family, respect for differences, compassion for the weak, love for the natural world, and willingness to fight like hell against exploiters and destroyers.
