I went to bed, lay down, I know I lost consciousness but it felt like my mind was racing all night long and I woke up a few times. Never felt really rested. This happens one night every other month or so, and I hate it. It just comes on completely randomly.

I read an article years ago about a fossilized redwood forest on Axel Heiberg Island, in the Canadian high arctic. As in this article, the island was also in the high arctic when the forest formed, though with a milder climate than today, so we know that (some species of) redwood could handle polar light extremes as long as the temperature was suitable cold.

And now I'm wondering about evergreen trees at that latitude (since modern redwoods, at least, are deciduous conifers).

ETA: That was in the Eocene, and the trees are Metasequoia. Here are a couple of links:

shit, i thought that onion article was legit for five minutes, then i scrolled down to see a bit about trump's staffers hastily disorganizing the White House so he wouldn't know they'd organized it in his absence, and then looked at the URL, and was like *phew*. Reality is shit, but not THAT shitty just as yet.
