The comments to this post by priyatelka got me to thinking about annoying songs people sing as kids. I eventually came to the conclusion that the most annoying song isn't one of the traditionally annoying ones, like "The Song that Never Ends" or "Infinite Bottles of Beer on the Wall", but one that's annoying to the singer as well. Which led me to this:

You keep adding things as the song goes on. Eventually you end up with something like this:

With the germ on the flea and the flea on the feather and the feather on the wing and the wing on the bird and the bird in the egg and the egg in the nest and the nest on the branch and the branch on the tree and the tree in the seed and the seed in the hole and the hole in the ground
And the green grass grows all around and around, and the green grass grows all around.

Now what? What's on the germ? Air? Made up of molecules? Made up of atoms? Made up of subatomic bonds? Which cause a huge-ass nuclear explosion when broken? And destroy the planet (the prettiest planet that you ever did see...)?

Or maybe inside the germ is a disease. Which enters a lung. Which causes a plague. Which kills off the people. Even the ugly ones.

See what I mean? VERY annoying song, that.

Oh, and you missed a couple steps on the Green Grass song:

Mostly you're just reciting it, faster and faster. The only part with a melody is the part that goes "and the green grass grows all around and around, and the green grass grows all around", which goes up four notes and down again.

eee that song reminds me of this tape (record?) my sisters and I had when we were kids. I loved that song as a kid. I'll probably get it stuck in my head now and annoy my bf by singing it constantly, but that was a happy little memory! :)
