Thanks for the links! Really liked "Helping My Son Choose Between the Cub Scouts and His Beliefs about God." My parents didn't let me join Girl Scouts because it's Christian and we're Jewish, and I always resented that, but maybe they did kind of have a point. Sadly they didn't actually find me Jewish kids to play with either!

Girl Scouts is for girls of all religions or none, at least, it is in the US. That's why conservatives have their own girl scouts, Heritage Girls.

But maybe your local troop was affiliated with a church?

Dunno, it was 40 years ago and I didn't have a way to research it independently. Maybe they were generalizing from Boy Scouts, or maybe Girl Scouts were different back then, or maybe doing holiday-specific activities for Christmas and Easter was too much in my parents' eyes. Or it could easily be that they didn't want the cost and inconvenience of uniforms and getting me to meetings.

Just FYI - now it's 40 years late, but just so you know - the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts in the US are completely 100% unaffiliated. Consequently, the Girl Scouts have always been on the forefront of LGBT acceptance and "sure, do your own thing" regarding religion... and the Boy Scouts, rather notoriously, have not.

It is a testament to exhaustion, that I read "Maine expanding program to vaccinate raccoons in the wild" as "Maine is expanding a program to explode raccoons in the wild".
