Sometimes, when discussing various controversial issues, people tell me that "that's their choice and you can't judge them". What the fuck? Damn straight I can judge them! And it doesn't matter why, either, that's my right. If I want to judge somebody for their beliefs (which, you'll note, I don't do), I can do that. If I want to judge them for being racist, I can do that. If I want to judge them for liking dogs more than cats, or for sleeping nine hours a day instead of eight, or for having god-damn freckles, I can do that. Whether or not this is a good thing, I don't know, but the fact is, I can judge whomever I want, whenever I want, and nobody can stop me.

I suspect what people mean is that I shouldn't judge others. This makes more sense, but it's still wrong. Or at least, hypocritical, since the person saying that usually is saying "I'm better than you, because I don't judge people. Nyah nyah!" What's really bad is that they say it when I'm not judging people. Telling you that I think Bush is a liar isn't judging you, it's informing you of my opinion. It's judging Bush, sure, but nobody thinks it's wrong to judge politicians, just people. If I tell you that I think going barefoot is healthier than wearing shoes, and that I have medical evidence to back this up, I'm not judging you for wearing shoes. I'm simply telling you something that I think is useful or interesting. Even if you disagree, and never agree with me, that doesn't mean I'm judging.

I have nothing more to say but this: the things people accuse others of being judgmental about seem to indicate more about the accuser's thoughts than the thoughts of the accused. Keep that in mind before you tell me to quit being judgmental, because there's a good chance that I'm not.
