iZombie spoilers ahoy
May. 11th, 2017 03:26 pmSoooo Blaine revealed that he had lost his memory, but now he got it back.
And the conversation online is still 100% "But really, he should still have been punished even with complete memory loss". Argh. What on earth is the point of punishing somebody who doesn't remember what they did? Even if they did something really bad, like Blaine did?
I'm all for throwing the book at him now, he's an unrepentant murderer. (Easy on the eyes, though.) But if he'd legit lost his memory? Why bother? "Well, a crime was committed and somebody has to be punished." (That's pretty much an exact quote, and a terrifying thought. This is not how justice works!)
Also, Liv is probably the only person on TV to use "whom" in cold blood.

Indeed.

Date: 2017-05-11 08:54 pm (UTC)Interestingly, this is not the only - or even oldest - interpretation of the Crucifixion, something you probably know but lots of people apparently don't.
Whee, random tangent!

Date: 2017-05-11 09:48 pm (UTC)That's why I specified "Protestant", not "Christian". I'm Eastern Orthodox, and that is not our understanding of who God is, but it seems to be the typical Protestant view (and the one I grew up with) - though Protestants are incohesive enough that it's not the only Protestant view either.
Yay for random tangents.
(As Madeleine L'Engle apparently didn't write, despite my memory, "some of the best conversations happen on tangents")

Date: 2017-05-11 10:56 pm (UTC)Agreed, I had no interest in Blaine getting punished for things he didn't remember doing, and even now it's... somewhat potentially complicated? I was fairly sure all along that original!Blaine would be coming back at some point one way or another, but I find the "his memory did come back but slowly" thing really interesting in terms of trying to figure out to what extent he's still Same Old Blaine and to what extent it's possible he's New Blaine. ...And also what the heck he's doing with the memory serum.

Date: 2017-05-12 12:29 am (UTC)Yeah, good guy amnesiac Blaine is just not as interesting as bleached blond bad boy Blaine. (Or as hot. I mean, I wouldn't date him, but....)
Morally dubious Blaine, however, has got some appeal. (I wouldn't date him either, but that's not the point, is it?)
And also what the heck he's doing with the memory serum.
Washing his windows for a streak-free shine?

I have loved both in completely different ways. I found good guy amnesiac Blaine embarrassingly adorable, but bad guy Blaine is just like having Spike from Buffy back except better because they're not getting confused about "oh but he's a NICE GUY even though he killed people!" Except when amnesia happened, of course, which is legitimate IMHO. And in general I have precisely zero shame about being attracted to good acting, and that dude is flippin' fantastic. 10/10 totally wish he'd done anything else that I actually wanted to see.
Would 100% date Ravi, but would happily watch either version of Blaine do pretty much anything for hours on end.
Washing his windows for a streak-free shine?
Lol, yes! That must be it. He just wants to clean the windows at Shady Plots (best funeral-home-run-by-a-sometime-villain name ever). ♥

Date: 2017-05-12 02:10 am (UTC)Honestly, this show's use of music in the last season and a half or so has been fantastic. I've got money now on them using The Cranberries' "Zombie" for a season or series finale, but so far my favorite is a tie between "Man of La Mancha (I, Don Quixote)" when Major storms in to "rescue" his other girl and "One Day More" from Les Mis while Blaine was screwing around with his dad.

Date: 2017-05-12 04:21 am (UTC)Since Major's memory came back, I don't think that's it. I honestly cannot figure it out. I find a lot of shows kind of predictable, but I'm totally stumped with this one. Which is awesome. :)

Date: 2017-05-12 04:40 am (UTC)Blaine's memory seems to be solidly there, for better or for worse. And in fictionland, it seems that two patients will always have the exact same side effects.

Date: 2017-05-12 12:00 am (UTC)Also, I guess these people don't have much experience with dementia? Odd, considering it's pretty common in the elderly. But yes, let's punish grandma for shoplifting because she forgot to pay. That'll teach her! RME
Also, Liv is probably the only person on TV to use "whom" in cold blood.
I am SO SO glad somebody else noticed this! XDDD I was like bzuh, she said whom. Like out loud.

Date: 2017-05-12 12:26 am (UTC)That is what I asked! But I got a downvote, so I doubt any reply was productive.

Exactly! I mean, my experience was "small children", but same diff. Obviously murder is different from a little bout of shoplifting, and if your mentally ill grandma or child or whoever is likely to kill again they'll need to be prevented from doing so... but that didn't appear to be the case with Blaine. (Now, who knows?)

No joke, I really think I'm the only person I've ever met who will drop the whom word in casual conversation, and that's never gained me any friends. I was very surprised!

Date: 2017-05-12 04:08 am (UTC)Apparently this got renewed for another season, so I think it's safe to assume Liv isn't going to find a cure this season. Poor Liv.
