For a musical, that Flash/Supergirl crossover wasn't very, um, musical.

Too straightforward, not enough singing, took its kinda inane plot way too seriously, and I'm extremely frustrated by the fact that apparently we suffered through an entire season of pointless relationship drama on two series just so Music Meister could save the day in the most obnoxious way possible. (And why does everybody believe him when he says stuff!?) Plus, this crossover has made it abundantly clear to me that in fact, I really ship Barry/Kara, which kinda ruins the whole moral and plot point, doesn't it?

But at least everybody can actually sing. I could listen to them all day... just in another episode. One with a better plot.

I like them together, too. I don't want to come between Barry and Iris, who seems like a lovely -- and very attractive, um, hello -- girl (though also criminally underused by The Flash? From what I have seen in a show I don't watch?), but I'm simply observing that Barry
(1) is supportive of Kara,
(2) actually listens to Kara, and
(3) has never been anything but completely honest with Kara.

(1) - (3) being so much more than can be said about Mon-El. I mean, if these showrunners are so thirsty for a white dude to be with Kara, they could at least chose one who's established as both trusting and trustworthy with Kara.

You are completely, 100% correct with regards to how Iris' character is completely underutilized.

Also - she's his sister. I mean, they grew up together after the age of 10 or so, and Barry calls her dad his dad, and - no, that's incest. It's gotta be incest, right?

Husband watched it. My main problem with it was that when I wandered through the living room, Grant Gustin was singing, and it was unnaturally processed and obviously lip synched.

Later he told me it was a Music Meister episode, and wished that they'd cast Neil Patrick Harris, as he voiced MM in the cartoon.

Totally incest. But honestly, that's the least of Barry's ethical issues. (I gave up on all the CW DC superhero shows because Kara was the only ethical one and she started twisting when Cat left, which was coincidentally when the show moved to CW.)

And NPH can really sing!

And, yeah, the CW has more ethical problems than you can shake a stick at, but iZombie is still pretty good and coming back in less than a month!

Although, come to think of it, I'm not sure incest is an ethical issue so long as there's no coercion or other abusive aspects. Sure is squicky, though.

Oh, the siblings incest thing is not a problem for me; I've shipped siblings before. What's a problem for me is relationships not built on trust and respect and knowing the other person (which is why on Fringe, after Peter slept with Alt!Livia the imposter, I could never ever buy his "love" again: The Olivias are wildly different; how could he not have known unless he never knew his universe's Olivia at all?)

Ahem, sorry for the ancient sci-fi show tangent --if Barry and Iris trust and respect each other, I'm good. Though I seem to recall tumblr posts about Barry messing up on that front with Iris?

Okay, here's the thing: Joe West is a pathological liar. His advice for any tricky situation is "lie the hell out of it". His wife was an addict and he had to kick her out? LIE TO IRIS UNTIL SHE GROWS UP. Barry is the Flash? LIE TO IRIS. Barry's dad is in prison and doesn't want Barry to visit him? LIE TO BARRY ABOUT THIS.

He's also, frankly, just a bit controlling of his kids. Iris wanted to be a cop - hell no. Maybe Barry did too, but he still got shunted into being a CSI.

And, unfortunately, Barry has picked up on both these attitudes and run with them. Like, at one point his big surprise gift to Iris was... a new apartment. Like, don't you think she might want a say on which apartment you jointly rent, Barry? And all through Season 1 he kept flirting with her as The Flash. When a girl says she wants you to back off, she means your alter-ego too!

(And now that I've said all that, their relationship is even creepier, because Joe is a blatant Iris/Barry shipper. And he really does influence his kids a lot. Ew.)
