All pop culture needs to just halt while I catch up on everything I want to catch up on, thanks.

So, all this stuff about aliens - okay, look. I know why Clark and Kara are there, Krypton is destroyed. Likewise with Hank, got it. And it makes sense that the erstwhile prisoners have nowhere else to go. But this can only add up to a tiny handful of people, especially when compared to a global population in the billions. How can a handful of aliens be a huge political issue? Are there more of them? If so, where are they all coming from, and - more pertinently - why would they want to make their homes on earth? Even if we assume that space is full of scads of destroyed planets and last survivors of their kind, and of course random outlaws, aren't there more hospitable planets? Places with, I don't know, more advanced technology? Or perhaps less advanced, for those who really want to live like god kings? Earth's kinda in the sweet spot where you don't have the comforts of home but you also can't count on being able to fool the gullible natives.

Yeah, yeah, metaphor - it doesn't make any sense on face value, which means it really fails as an allegory. (Is there a comics canon answer for this?)
