Yesterday I went to bed late
Jun. 6th, 2016 06:23 pmand spent some time prior to bed going over TvTropes' "what was that book" requests. This is the sort of thing I do for fun, and I answered several of them that had been unanswered for positively years (so probably the posters will never know, but such is life).
And one of them - which had already been answered, turned out to be "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" - the poster described as set "during that whole black racism time in America". I'm not really sure what time she was thinking of when she posted that, but I guess that just about sums it up...?
Decided to read Detectives in Togas to the girls, because that was what was on the bookcase. The girls are doing a marvelous job at pretending to be interested in all my little digressions on "Why slavery is ultimately both immoral and economically unstable, and caused no end of problems for the Romans in the long run" and "Don't forget, candles aren't invented yet" and "Punctuation (and pronunciation) in the Roman Empire" and the like. Honestly, I had no idea I retained all that information! But apparently I did, and gosh if it doesn't come bubbling out. Next time I'm reading them a book about something I am utterly ignorant of.
