And she mentioned that two characters are "friends with benefits". Puzzled, I asked what that means, and when she said "You know, they benefit each other" I told her that the "benefit" in that phrase is usually supposed to be "sex", and if she doesn't mean that she should just call them friends.

A few days ago I related this story to Jenn. Ana, who was sitting by went "Wait, is THAT what it means? I have to stop saying that. My friends laughed when I said it, and I had no idea why!"

Yes, I'm so happy I had this conversation with the girls. Twice. Though maybe I'm the one who has it wrong and the younger generation actually uses it differently from the rest of us?
