We also checked MarineTraffic.com, and it seemed to show the same thing. Not a ship in transit…

http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/p/faq#faq16 :
The MarineTraffic system does not cover all the seas of the world, but only specific coastal areas where a land-based AIS receiver is installed. Vessels appearing on the live map are equipped with an operational AIS transponder and they sail within the reception range of an AIS receiver installed on the land.

We checked VesselFinder.com and it appears to show no ships in transit anywhere in the world.

I'm glad I didn't get me butt in gear in time to buy a ticket, then.

Truly, though, that article convinced me I don't really want to win the Prize of Prizes. A million bucks before taxes would be more than enough to do everything I want to do. "As if." ;~D

Ah well, if I was actually going to gamble, I'd play something with better odds, such as the stock market. Consider: $2.00 a week not spent on lottery tickets comes to $104.00 a year, which is enough to get in the game (http://finance.zacks.com/can-invest-100-dollars-stock-market-6624.html), and the odds of winning are quite favorable.

Ah well, people also salivate over tales of those who get rich from the stock market, then lose everything. It's in the tradition of fairy tales about people who are granted wishes, but use them unwisely - all the way back to Tithonius and King Midas: everyone likes to think "Well, I'd be smarter than that", and if you can't be fabulously rich, it's some consolation to feel smarter than than someone who is.

Only because we all heard his story when we were little.

*wry grin* In addition to having a plan for What To Do If I Win The Lottery (even though I don't play it) I also have a plan for What To Do If I Get Three Wishes. Several plans, actually, depending on the power of the wish-granter, and whether it's the Faerie Queen thanking me for a great service, or some scuzzy magic monkey's paw.

If I only get one wish, it'll be "I wish to win the grand prize at Powerball next time I play", because some random person is going to win, so my winning would be the least possible disruption of the laws of probability. Then I'd wait till the prize was up to 20 million and buy one single ticket.
