Why is it that my favorite authors, especially my favorite authors of children's books, are people whom nobody else has ever heard of, and are often out of print? Those few people who have heard of these authors tend to like them, so... why aren't they more well known?

I was searching amazon.com for more things to mock/read, and I noticed that the author of one book I liked is also the author of ANOTHER book I liked. And as I scrolled the list of books, I kept noticing more and more books I recognized but hadn't seen in a long while because H. M. Hoover's books are almost all out of print. It's enough to make one lose ones faith. *sighs* Same thing with Hilari Bell (who is too recent to be out of print) and, of course, Noel Streatfield (whose name I am everlastingly misspelling)... Huh. Ms. Rowling's just lucky I didn't find Harry Potter too long before it became popular, she might never have made her millions!

I have the same problem; all my favorite authors go out of print. (Have you priced Beverly Nichols lately?)

I have, however, read The Rains of Eridan when I was younger, so you aren't quite alone.

And don't even get me started on all the children's books I checked out from the library but was too feckless at that age to record/remember the authors or titles....

*laughs* You too? Elizabeth Wein-- who? Malafrena-- what? Lloyd Alexander, oh, he wrote those Black Cauldron books. *facepalm*

I love my completely obscure books.

Gah--

All together now, think about the Disneyfied movie of the Black Cauldron and grind your teeth hard....

*laughs* I'd be grinding my teeth more if Disney'd got hold of "Westmark".

I'm after a book called 'Rabbit Island'. I need to tell my mom to keepnit if she finds it at the house because copies in rough shape go for no less than $50. Ouch. That's a lot for an old picture book.

Noel Streatfeild! Yay! I love her stuff. Am currently trying to work out whether I actually own a copy of Ballet Shoes, or whether I've simply borrowed the library's so often that it feels like mine...
