One more vocabulary review.

Islam: A religious group. There is no "one way" to practice Islam, just like there is on "one way" to practice Christianity.
Muslim: A person who follows the religion known as Islam.
Arabic: A language, with many different dialects, some of which are very far apart. Spoken primarily by Arabs and Muslims.
Arab: Not synonymous with Muslim. Many Muslims are not Arab, many Arabs are not, nor have ever been Muslim.

I think this stems from being unable to say God's name, so you... what, call him by a title? That's like having a pet turtle and naming it Turtle. Calling God by what he is seems a bit disrespectful to me, but hey. I think it says something about how much more personal Islam is of a religion (not to mention that you don't need any intermediary or training).
I like the way Islam does things. They cut out the fluff and get straight to the "this is you, this is Allah. Pray five times a day, follow the five pillars and have fun kiddies!"

Date: 2004-06-19 07:43 am (UTC)YHWH is the actual name for god given in the Bible. Different languages have different names for "God". Allah is NOT the Muslim word for god. AS I HAVE ALREADY STATED, Christian Arabs, who are Christians use the word "Allah" to mean God.
