My mouse's scrollwheel has stopped working. I mean, it rolls, but it rolls too smoothly, without the feel of a gear turning like it's supposed to, and it doesn't make the page scroll. Does anybody know why that happened or how to fix it?

Weird. At a guess, I'd say something's come loose in there. You know how to open them up, right?

Sounds like a good guess. We had trouble with ours not wanting to move; the ball wouldn't roll because it was dirty inside. How it gets dirty in there is beyond me, but we had to take it apart and clean it.

Ours did that too--it turned out there was a wad of dust, lint, and cat hair wedged halfway underneath the wheel, preventing it from contacting the little gears.

I didn't know how to take it apart, so I unplugged it and (carefully!) used a fine sewing needle to coax the mat of stuff from under the wheel.

And before anyone says anything, yes, I know how to take out the ball and clean THAT.

I've had that before. I fixed my mouse, and things didn't go right. It was because I hadn't put the spring for that part in right. Probably the same thing. Spring just came loose ;O
