It was, of course, Rosh Hashanah (and belated l'shanah tovah, guys!), so public schools had two days off, soooooo we all went to see The Box Trolls with some friends.

Jenn had six free tickets to the movie of her choice. I suggested in the morning that we go to the theater in Battery Park City, because there's some nice playgrounds near there and we wouldn't have to take the train. She said that her tickets were for Regal, and that's an AMC theater. I said I thought it was a Regal theater. I was right, it was Regal... but it turns out that her tickets were for AMC the whole time, so we had to pay full price!

Ah, well. I have been waiting for this movie since I saw a commercial for it back in May or June. I'm a real sucker for stop-motion animation, and from then until now, every time I was watching TV and fast forwarding through the commercials, if that one came on I'd rewind and watch it in full, mouth open like a little child.

AND IT WAS WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION.

Plus, something to be proud of, Eva only needed to sit on her mom's lap once due to scary scenes. We kept waiting for her to come back during some dramatic ones (including - spoiler! - one where it appears all the box trolls got crushed), but she did not.

One note: After the beginning credits (and the credits has a special section for all the kids born to the production crew during the making of this movie, aww!) there's a special meta scene. Which is awesome. You definitely have to stay for that scene, or you'll end up standing frozen in the aisle like all the people in the theater yesterday who hoped to make a fast getaway.
