Is clearly designed for people who don't know which part of the mouse to hold. It's a required course, though, and an easy credit.

During the last lab, they had us looking stuff up on Alan Turing. And they were nice, they gave us the links of the sites they wanted us to use. Here's the first link and here's the second.

They asked us how he died. The first site doesn't say. The last few paragraphs run like this:

In March 1952 he was prosecuted for his homosexuality, then a crime in Britain, and sentenced to a period of twelve months hormone 'therapy' - shabby treatment from the country he had helped save, which he seems to have borne with amused fortitude.

From 1951 Turing worked on what would now be called Artificial Life, using the Ferranti Mark I computer to model aspects of biological growth, in particular a chemical mechanism by which the genes of a zygote could determine the anatomical structure of the resulting animal or plant. He died in the midst of this groundbreaking work.

Basically: They found out he was gay, given a sentence to take hormones, and he didn't like it but he didn't complain. Then he went back to work and eventually died.

The second site just has a timeline. They describe events like this:

1951: Elected FRS. Non-linear theory of biological growth
1952: Arrested as a homosexual, loss of security clearance
1953-54: Unfinished work in biology and physics
1954 (7 June): Death (suicide) by cyanide poisoning, Wilmslow, Cheshire.

Hold up, hold up, hold up. Slightly more than two years after his conviction, which we is said to have borne with "amused fortitude", he kills himself. Oh, and he lost his security clearance because of this sentence, which no doubt severely hindered his work. WHY DIDN'T THE FIRST SITE SAY THAT? They certainly don't mind saying that it was "shabby treatment", so why not say what the full extent of this treatment was? Why not even say the man killed himself? I don't know why he did it, I'm just speculating, but I don't think I'm going too far into the realm of the impossible to say that his conviction and loss of security privilages may have had something to do with this.
