1. Less than a year ago, somebody wrote up a few charts showing the effects of a flat tax rate on the living wage of people at various income thresholds. Does anybody know where I can find this?

2. I made a cake for Ana's birthday. Made it right off the box of Hershey's cocoa. I've made that recipe before, never had a problem. The only two changes I made were halving it in order not to have a layer cake, and mixing it by hand rather than washing the mixer twice (once for the batter and once for the frosting). I didn't put it in the oven until the oven was fully preheated, and I didn't keep opening the oven to check on it. The baking powder is brand new.

But the cake finished about 5 or 10 minutes faster than I would've expected and failed to rise properly. Came out like a big, circular brownie. Still tastes okay, but definitely not what I would call "cake".

What did I do wrong? Any ideas?

Any chance you forgot to put an ingredient in? When weird things happen to my recipes, I often find a measuring vessel full of something important still sitting on the counter.

I literally cannot beat a cake batter the way it needs to be, whisk or fork, as well as a mixer does. So if I were to try to make the cake, it would totally fail at incorporating enough air.

Asp, mind you, can use a fork get a fantastic cake.

I often find this unfair.*

*Although it's worth noting that my invisible disabilities mean that we have a lovely KitchenAid mixer.
