I didn't have a livejournal when it came out, but I love that movie, so you'll have to take my thoughts now.

1. What's up with Lilo's books? Oyster Farming, Fire Eating for Fun and Profit, Road Maps of Iowa... Hm. What's up with Lilo? She's got that obsession with Elvis, not to mention all those photos of hers, and she obviously can't tell who is and isn't her friend.... Poor kid. *hugs*

2. What year is this? I'd say the Elvis suggests an earlier era, but then again, Lilo could just be a Weird Kid. But we've got black and white televisions, and older-looking clothes on the people at the beach... and cell phones. Mr. Bubbles was at Roswell in the 70s, but that'd make him at least 50 if this were set now. Is it? Is he in his 50s?

3. At the end of the movie, Lilo's family grows by leaps and bounds - Stitch, David (is that his name?), Evil Scientist, Plinkly (or whatever his name was), Mr. Bubbles - all these people seem to have joined the family. What's Stitch's role? Is he Lilo's brother? Is he going to school with her? In one picture, he is, in another, he's sending her off to school. Why is everybody so accepting of this strange looking brother of hers (or really weird dog)? Wait, this is Disney. People are never ever prejudiced against the unusual unless they're mindless bigots.

4. Why exactly did Commander Gantu hate Stitch so much? Don't you think his anger was a little extreme?

5. Come to think of it, what sort of galaxy is this? You can be exiled when all you appear to have done is say a few dirty words. Planets can be gassed to deal with one minor criminal, who can't escape the planet anyway (and even if he could, couldn't people just wait for him to leave?). It's a waste of galactic resources to return a child to her family. There's apparently no appeal for council decisions, unless they need you to catch a cute and fluffy monster of doom. You can be exiled simply for being incompetent. The galaxy is full of diversity, but be born in an unconventional manner and all of a sudden you're an abomination, and deserve to be hated.

In some states you can go to jail for swearing in front of a woman. In some countries they'll still stone you to death for it. Exile doesn't seem that far out of the realm of possibility :P

I didn't see that movie till it came out on DVD awhile back, when all of my friends told me I HAD to see it because I was just like Lilo. Scary part was I am a lot like Lilo.

[profile] mystic_familiar thinks Lilo may be autistic, due to her obsessions, lack of social grace, and getting into hair-pulling, face-puniching, biting meltdowns.

I dunno, I think that's just being a kid. I used to beat up kids all the time when I was her age. And then one day I stopped.

And everyone has obsessions. My friends and I in middle school were obsessed with Sailor Moon. My boyfriend and I are obsessed with DDR right now.

As for the lack of social grace, have you ever been to an anime convention O_o

Haha, yeah, same breed of craziness over at at least gaming conventions. They're loads of fun but sometimes you've got to wonder...

Always. I think Aidan and Lilo would make a cute couple.

I think they exiled him mostly because he was capable of destroying a lot of things, and him saying bad words and licking the glass just showed he didn't feel like improving himself and being a good citizen. ^_~

That is a really good question about the time period, though. I felt very oddly out-of-place watching it. Anachronistic.

Some TVs only show black and white; maybe they had a really old one, or.. um.. couldn't afford color? *grasps at straws*

Or maybe Hawaii is 30 years behind the rest of us...? Or maybe they live on welfare and can't afford modern entertainment? That one always confused me too.

Maybe they were showing an old black and white program? [/more grasping at straws]

The store was showing an old monster movie (from the 50s, I've seen it), hence why it was black and white.

The movie felt kind of "eighties-ish" to me though. That house looked kind of big, and Hawaii is an EXPENSIVE place to live (even for the natives).

And I think they wanted him destroyed so much just because he proved that he's a monster bent on destroying things. So get 'im first! And Gantu hated him cuz, yanno, no one gets the better of Gantu!

I've only seen this movie twice, too.

I've yet to see the original film although I've seen Stitch the Movie which is a sort of 'bridge' to the series. I've just taken to watching the series on the Disney Channels and I love it. Considering there are 625 experiments, they keep repeating the same episodes. I think I've seen all the ones they've made so far - roughly 20. What I liked about Stitch the Movie is it explains why there are so many experiments lying around on the island just waiting to be hydrated.
