It takes how much water to grow an almond?!

http://grist.org/food/it-takes-how-much-water-to-grow-an-almond/

"There's no question that Americans overwhelmingly prefer white chicken meat to dark. We eat chicken almost 10 times a month on average—according to data from 2007— but on less than two of those occasions do we choose chicken legs, thighs, or drumsticks. At the household level, this isn't problematic; families can buy prepackaged white meat instead of whole birds. But magnify this preference millions of times over on a national scale, and the imbalance could, theoretically, lead to canyons of perfectly edible chicken going to waste.

Historically, Russia has helped keep this hypothetical from becoming a reality. Through a miracle of yin-and-yang cultural predilections, Russians actually like gamier dark meat. And since the collapse of the former Soviet Union, they have imported it in stunningly large quantities. In 2009 alone Russia doled out $800 million for 1.6 billion pounds of U.S. leg quarters."

I guess that makes me Russian, then, because if I'm buying chicken raw in the store or fried as takeout, I inevitably go for the dark meat. White meat is ick.

Another "Successful Banker" Found Dead

Coincidences are a thing, and weird clusters happen, and I'm sure hearing about dead bankers is not a good thing for any already depressed or suicidal members of the high-stress financial world, but seriously? WTF?

WTH is boneless skinless dark meat $0.50 more per lb than boneless skinless breast meat at my grocery store? I prefer dark meat for curry, and this has been an Issue.

Okay, I just checked peapod.com:
Stop & Shop Chicken Thighs Boneless Skinless Value Pack - 10 ct Fresh
Store Brand
APX 3 LB | $1.99 / LB

Stop & Shop Chicken Breasts Boneless Skinless All Natural Value Pack Fresh
Store Brand
APX 3-4 LB | $1.79 / LB
McKinnon's is advertising $1.89/lb for Chicken Breasts Boneless Skinless. (Doesn't mention thighs.) I'm not imagining this.

Maybe since the demand is apparently less they have less dark meat in stock? That would make it more expensive, wouldn't it?

What the heck is Palm Springs using all that water for?

The chicken thing is interesting, I'm glad it balances out. I suppose that means that at home mum is the US and I'm Russia... which works out fine, at least when it comes to chicken. :~D

Also, the banker deaths is beginning to look like a very depressing trend.
