I'm sitting here crying.

The house is in foreclosure, the house I grew up in, the house where my father died, and it just upsets me so much because I know things might not have gotten this bad if the people in my family would do what they were supposed to do instead of trying to hide from problems.

And I don't know where on earth we are supposed to find a house or apartment that will fit five people, three cats, and all our books. Other than the one we have, that is. If we have to move, something has got to give, and it won't be the cats or the books, so it will probably be one of the people.

Jenn has yet to find a job, I've yet to find anything I'm qualified for at all that will do more than pay my transportation costs there and back, and I am certain that this is going to pass, sooner or later. It just hasn't yet, and we just need to keep it together for a little long until it does.

And I don't want to lose the house. I love this house.

And so I'm asking for money because we really, really need it. I just kinda skimmed the first part of the foreclosure thing, I couldn't see well because, well, I was crying. I think we really only need $15k right now right now, but I added up a bit because, well, we would all like to be that lucky.

So please, if you can help at all, or if you know people who can and are likely to feel charitable to a friend of a friend, please, please help.

My sister didnt want me to post this before, she said it was awkward and embarrassing, but I told her, I'd help out anybody I knew if I could.

On that note, I can't seem to link the bank account directly to PayPal. Do they have some issue with Citibank or something?

Pitched in what I could, and I'll do some signal boosting. I hope things work out; I'm sending all the good vibes I can.

I just threw in this week's lunch/coffee money and will see if I can pull any more out next week once the carpenter comes by to look at our own money pit's problematic soffit. *sigh* I also linked this appeal on Twitter and will log into FB to do the same (we're not FB friends but if you want, I can look for you there to help boost the signal further).

I thought that sounded like your sister's name there. Still, I will get FB loaded up to share the info further. Good luck!

Oh, no! I'm so sorry to hear it.

I'm glad to know you're planful and starting to look for a safe landing, but I want to give you the heads up that in a huge number of cases, people have managed to stay in their foreclosed homes even to years after the foreclosure. So unless you have reason to believe otherwise, it's not a foregone conclusion you will have to move immediately, or even soon.

Out of curiosity, how long has your family been in this house, how long have you had this mortgage, and how many years left on it do you have? And where in the foreclosure process are you?

I have tossed some money in. While this is far more than Modest Needs would consider assisting with, do consider that if you get almost enough or need just a little more help with something, they might be a good resource also.

Here via network. My plan is to toss in after I get paid on Wednesday, but the bit about multiple generations that's on the gofundme page has me thinking-- is anyone in the house over 62? Reverse mortgages can be a solution in that scenario. Provided the appraisal turned out well, both mortgages could be paid off.

I have to admit--the company I work for is actually one of the leading reverse mortgage companies, which is how I know how reverse mortgages work. (I'm a loan processor; I've closed at least five loans in the past month that meant we saved our borrowers from foreclosure.)

And, yeah, we've had borrowers who've used those programs. (I did not know about them either prior to working for this company.)

I am so tempted to say, "I can give you the number of my company," but-- there are three specific loan officers I'd want your mother to contact (obviously, only one of them can do the loan), and also it's a little awkward to go, "Here, have unsolicited contact info!"

(I work as the processor for the top 2 loan officers in my branch of the company. They've both been with the company for a decade, and both women are incredibly good at fighting for their borrowers. Right down to making me argue with the UW for 20 minutes if need be. My manager, who's also got a ton of experience under her belt, is going back to being a loan officer next week. All three are in this to help people, not to turn a profit. Though, obviously, they do.)

But if this is something that your mother would be interested in, I have experience and knowledge, et cetera.

(I also have a vested interest in keeping borrowers from certain companies because there are companies/loan officers out there that a. either do this just for the money, and/or b. are legitimately awful and will not get your mother a decent deal. I should know--we steal loans from those companies for a reason.)

I had some spare money. I've known you (online, anyway) for ten years. Seemed like a good use for it.

Hope things work out for you.

I can't help at this time - we're currently struggling to keep our own house - but best of luck with getting the money. At any rate, I think you're definitely right to post this; if I could, I would help, and I'm sure there will be people seeing this who can.
