We went over to a friend's house, where I accidentally fell into the role of Tickle Monster to the younger two. Whoops. During the dinner, the three year old decided that she should get into the job of bringing food to everybody as well, so she went around with an empty bowl demanding everybody take her soup. When she got to her diabetic sister, she was even more emphatic. "You have to eat this soup! It's sugar free!" The food I brought at the last minute was well received, which is great, because I got to use up one and a half cabbages making it, and we got a ton with the last CSA! I had been going to make Swedish meatballs, because the girls don't like them and since they're not here this weekend I had the perfect excuse, but that didn't work out.

Thank you for linking. That was exactly what I was thinking as I was reading the Smithsonian article, and more articulate than I could put it.

The Indians who first feasted with the English colonists were far more sophisticated than you were taught in school. But that wasn't enough to save them.

They, or their leader Massasoit, negotiated a treaty at that time (with the English and with nearby possibly encroaching tribes) which kept the peace for 50 years.
