English Has a New Preposition, Because Internet

http://bit.ly/I2A7vd

The comments are surprisingly level-headed, though there are a number of people saying variations on "bah, this is just people too lazy/space constrained to say "because of!", something which seems to be pretty indefensible if you try inserting "of" in all the sample sentences or any others you can think of.

On another language-y note, I kinda had to giggle at this Not Always Right (http://notalwaysright.com/to-term-a-contradiction/33149). It seems a little backwards to blame "opposite-y" on Twilight when Buffy is kinda sorta the definition of, well, Buffyspeak. Even the OED is apparently in on it.

Huh. So far, I've been believing that this is more or less just a joke/meme, like LOLcat speech or OMGWTFBBQ or This totally is A Thing, rather than an actual change in the English language: At some point, it'll go out of fashion and will be replaced by some other fad. Because Internet.

Admittedly, I haven't had a chance to listen in on any free-range English speakers for five years. So maybe this totally is A Thing out in the real world. *headscratch*
