I didn't know what balut was until I read your post and looked it up. I think I liked it better that way.

No election here in Nevada. No write-ins when we do have an election, either. But we have two weeks of early voting when there is an election, so the mad rush and long lines don't happen. We have initiative and referendum too, with a Constitutional provision that the legislature isn't allowed to tamper with a law passed by the people.
