This is, incidentally, how you make schmaltz, if you are inclined to do such a thing. I just happened to have some and didn't want to throw it out. Waste not, want not, right?
Well, since then Ana has been bugging me to do it again, so I finally bit the bullet and talked to the butcher, and he delightedly handed me 74¢ worth of chicken skin, explaining he HAD to put something down so he charged 10¢ a pound.
Yes, I am now the proud possessor of nearly seven and a half pounds of chicken skin, and all I really wanted was maybe six ounces. I think... I think our freezer will just have to take the excess.
While I was there I picked up some chicken livers. Ana somewhere got the expression "what am I, chopped liver?" and I thought it'd be funny to make her some. I'll only make a little, and if we don't like it I'll give the rest, sans onions, to the cats. Or maybe I'll make dirty rice. If it turns out the girls do like it, well, liver is an economical cut of meat.
