Boy, girl, cute little baby. Cute little baby who cried the entire time because I wasn't her mom and wouldn't let her tiny sister (eight years old, but teensy) carry her across busy four lane streets.

I honestly didn't like her sister carrying her that much at all, because she couldn't manage a good grip and thus semi-dragged the baby in a way that looked mad uncomfortable. So uncomfortable that I'll use the vernacular to emphasize just how uncomfortable it looked. How uncomfortable? MAD uncomfortable. With capitals. And really, I thought that no sister should be so loving that she isn't allowed to have fun too. Whatever the baby says, I'm not going to poison her if her sister takes five minutes to herself.

But it did turn the kid's sobbing from shrieks, wails, and attempts to hide behind the aforementioned sister into just a low level whimper, so I put up with it.

She did stop crying when we stopped at home to drop off books and report cards (the kids did great, thanks for asking, threes and fours all down the board!) and she saw the cat. She walked toward him, totally fascinated. And since he's the friendly cat, he came toward her. As soon as he approached, she panicked and burst into fresh sobs. Lather, rinse, keep repeating.

We went to the zoo. She needed a nap on the bus. Hard to get one, though, because her siblings kept poking her and hugging her and saying "it's all right, I'm here!" I told them to knock it off, she needed to sleep. "But she wants us! She doesn't want to sleep!" I told them what she wants and what she needs are entirely different things, then carefully sat down far away from them when we boarded the bus. She was asleep in two minutes flat. "Oh, but not because she needed to sleep! You just MADE her!"

That's pretty much how it went, all day. Well, the kids mostly had fun, anyway, and we got some good mulberry picking in!
