That's pretty freaky.

I searched that up after reading this post on the fact that most of those examples of recessive human traits we learned in high school bio aren't. Also, as noted, if you use examples that are correct, you might accidentally spill the beans about a family secret.

Actually, that happened (sorta but not really) to my mother in her high school bio class. She innocently and naively asked how she could have brown eyes if that's a dominant trait and her father had grey eyes and her mother had green eyes, and she, as she tells this story, didn't quite get a straight answer out of her teacher. (Not that the reason for this occurred to her at the time, because the idea that she's not biologically related to either of them is pretty silly. But her teacher didn't know that.) At any rate, apparently this must have been weighing on that woman's mind, because a few days later after apparently quite a bit of pre-internet research she approached my mother and gave her this whole song and dance about how her eyes are really hazel and that's totally different. I don't know if it is totally different, but my mom's eyes really are hazel, and inheritance of eye color is a bit more complicated than most people realize - as, indeed, the side links of that site make clear.
