I forget if I posted this yet
Feb. 7th, 2015 04:24 amA few weeks ago, we were at the Y and Eva was waiting for the clock to hit 4 so she could go and change. I refuse to let her go into the locker room when Ana does and then sit around 45 minutes. Technically, kids aren't supposed to use the women's locker room unless they're really very small, but nobody minds so long as they don't cause trouble, and if she's limited in how long she can hang out there she won't start playing with the hair dryers, as she is wont to do. (I don't want to sit there with her. The smell of chlorine wafts through, and gives me a headache. Forget it!) The two of them hate the girls' locker room, probably because it has too many boys, but I'm not very clear on that.
So at 3:45, Eva gets up to walk to the locker room and I haul her back down. So she turns to me and says, very seriously "Connie. If you love something, you let it go. Then, if it's really yours, it might come back to you someday."
"Interesting. But you forgot something."
"What?"
"I won't love you that much until 4pm."
Since then, I've tried that line on her every time she hug tackles me. She now insists that it runs "If you love something, you rip it apart limb from limb". These children are scary!
Also: It was still light out when we left Eva's swim class. I'd told Ana that I don't want her traveling home after dark alone, but if it's still light out when Eva leaves class then Ana has time to get home after her own class before the sun goes down. I'm acting like I don't love the idea, but I do. If Ana gets herself home, she can start something easy for dinner for us, like potatoes or pasta, and then dinner isn't late once a week.
