Well, it didn't cost nearly as much as I'd feared.

It would've if I'd asked them to fix the pipe, but as it turns out to just go to the basement kitchen sink (thus neatly answering the question "what sort of idiot puts uninsulated pipes on an exterior wall in an unheated basement???" with "that idiot contractor!") I said screw it, we don't need that sink, just cap it off.

Also, I think they thought I was crying and felt sorry for me. In actual fact, although I was quite upset (I went to the bank to get cash and turned out there was some inexplicable problem with the card, so you know, not a happy day!), I wasn't crying. My right eye gets incredibly watery in cold or windy weather, and especially cold AND windy weather.

So all's well that ends well. The girls calmed down and agreed to make up all our science and history for the week over the weekend, and I got french bread to make toast tomorrow, and I'll use our leftover chili from tonight and put a cornbread topping on it for lunch, and I'm sure Jenn can figure out something for dinner because I am taking a gosh-darn day off in the afternoon, after the aforementioned science and history.
