I was at the strand, and I picked up a new book for $5, Zenn Scarlett. It is refreshingly non-dystopic, but I bet the nieces will enjoy it more than I ultimately did.
After I read it, I glanced at the editorial reviews. I always like to do that, just in case one of my favorite authors liked the book (squee!) or one of the reviewers has a book title that sounds interesting.
So we have one author I recognize, that'd be the author of Starglass (which I really did enjoy), two authors I do not recognize... and Temple Grandin.
Granted, this *is* a book about an aspiring veterinarian, but the animals she intends to work on are all fictional alien animals. That was an interesting surprise!
