Chicken noodle soup from the freezer, $2.50 per serving. I added some frozen peas, and then just as I finished and took it off the stove a friend invited the nieces to go get Chinese food, so I didn't make anything else to go with it, which I absolutely would have.

Breakfast today: steel cut oats with raisins, apples, honey, and a little vanilla extract. I ought to buy that stuff in bulk, I use enough of it! The extract, that is. I already buy the oats in bulk.

Boys are born to prefer dolls over masculine toys like cars

That's an odd usage, "born to prefer". I'm 92% sure that they aren't saying what I would mean by that construction but what I would phrase as "born preferring". Is that typical in Australia?

Chinese scientists 'increasingly confident' about invisibility cloak after making a cat disappear

If that picture is accurate, "disappear" is a bit of an exaggeration.

So, if you follow this sort of news you may have heard that the star of Duck Dynasty said some really homophobic and racist things, and got taken off the show and then put back on. Yeah, I don't know either.

But after the fact he said something about marrying young girls specifically because then they do what you say (his wife was 16 when they married), which... ew!

More people whom you may or may not have heard of (depends on what sort of news you follow) have joined the fray, asserting that the only reason "liberals" objected to that idea was because we want teenage girls to slut it up all over the place. Which, again, ew.

Don't click if you don't have a strong stomach.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is the greatest example of interpersonal/individual reconciliation we have, thus we should employ the tactics within in the show more often in real life; also, I am a huge nerd.

Um... yeah. (That's the entire text of the link.)

A Calvin and Hobbes crossover with Young Wizards???

Inspired.

Although Calvin still seems very young for his Ordeal, sometimes young is what you need.

Which seems self-evident, I know. Consider cooking. I like to cook. I enjoy cooking. When I'm stressed and upset, I just want to order a freaking pizza already, but you can't exactly do it when you have no money! If I can't order pizza, I might want to get some ice cream, but not if it isn't freaking on sale. If a book isn't at the library, I might want to order it, but NO MONEY. And so on.

Very annoying. However, one of you recommended generally a book about a cop right before an asteroid hits earth, The Last Policeman, so I took it out from the library and it's turning out to be pretty good, so thanks for that! (Also, the other librarian suggested although she probably can't just up and cancel an $80 fine, and I didn't expect her too, she might be able to halve it or better if we bring in a copy of the foreclosure notice, so there's that.)
