"We don't use the concept of 'safe' to smother a kid," said Peggy Groce, director of the travel training program.
Well said. Now, if only certain parties would apply that same principle to younger, typically developing students!

Secondly, and this is a long one, can emotional intelligence be taught? (Better question: can we teach social skills more cheaply by giving generous playtime? Less homework, more recess, not nearly as many prying, public questions about kids' homelives?)
