A. If you drop a knife, don't catch it.
B. If they ask you "your money or your life", you do not actually have a choice here.
C. Seriously, please obey traffic rules.

The last thing I like to see when crossing the street is the car stopped at the line deciding to amble itself up to me in the crosswalk while I am directly in front of it. I don't know if they see me or have lost their senses or what! And you're not supposed to be IN the crosswalk or right up AGAINST the crosswalk either. Cars are supposed to stop at the line a foot or two away. Your precious three seconds are not really worth everybody's safety, and when people in multi-ton killing machines start moving when they shouldn't, damn straight I start yelling the first words that spring to mind.

Yes, even if you have a kid in the car. Really, if there is a child in the backseat, that's all the more reason for you to take care. Again, I say, those precious three seconds you save by edging up to the corner (seconds promptly lost, and then some, for being offended that I dared be upset at this behavior while crossing the street with a young child of my own!) are NOT WORTH YOUR KID'S LIFE.

Seriously, if you can't drive, walk.

I might talk to the school, see if they'll send a general note home about traffic safety and why it's important. They're pretty hung up on safety already, and there are a lot of schools and a lot of kids in this neighborhood. I don't know that it'd do any good, but I'd feel better. And who knows, it might shame this guy into acting like an adult instead of a wayward child.

Edit: you might think that you in a car have little to fear from stopping ahead of the stop line, but these streets aren't really built for the traffic they get. I see it every week, somebody stops too close to the top of the hill and then has to frantically backtrack so a truck or bus has the clearance needed to turn - no small feat on a steep little hill with traffic backed up all the way down! Seriously, traffic laws, they're in place for a reason.

I wish I knew where our local cop is who tickets the parents who dawdle too long in front of the school (the parents complain, but they should know better) waits, I could sic him on somebody a bit more profitable.
