Well, that was fun.
Jan. 4th, 2010 12:09 pmThe cat (he's NOT staying) has been growing gradually more and more trusting. When he first came, he cried terribly if left alone, and wanted to sit on a lap and be actively cuddled all the time. Then he gradually consented to explore very slightly for a short period at a time - and given how empty my room is, trust me - there's not much to explore. Then he progressed to playing a very little (and it took him the better part of a week!) and grooming himself and looking out my window. And he started sleeping *near* me, but not *directly on me*, which is a good sign.
And last night, at about midnight, he realized he could JUMP and CLIMB things. A fully grown cat (admittedly barely out of kittenhood, but still) and he hadn't done any of this.
Unfortunately, what he was jumping and climbing on was largely precariously-balanced stacks of books. Still, after moving my lamp to the floor, I let him do it. I'm happy to see him acting like a cat instead of a scared little waif. (And he's filling out nicely, too - he was so angular and skinny when he came here, but now he's merely catting down his food, not wolfing it down!) But it did make a lot of noise, and so I was late getting to sleep - like, 2am. Not usually a real problem, except...
except my grandmother dropped her phone at 4am and dislocated her hip trying to pick it up. (She kept angsting over how stupid she felt, but I knew how to cure that! I reminded her of the time she dropped a knife and grabbed it midair, slicing her hand open. She brought up the time she carefully picked up a hot plate with an oven mitt, but then touched it with her bare hand as soon as she set it down. And we finished by mentioning that smoking for much of her adult life was both unhealthy AND expensive and, in conclusion, trying to get your phone in the middle of the night? Not very stupid at all. We laughed over this one :P)
So we ended up in the hospital. Just me, her, and a bag of books. (We might forget the hearing aid. We might forget the walker. We might forget the insurance card and the medications and the spare cash. But in this household we NEVER forget the books. The nurse thought I brought too many. Hah. I finished two and a half while there, and it would've been three and a half if I hadn't been kindly brought a bed to nap on.)
All in all, I think we were seen very quickly, no matter what Bonne-Maman says. We didn't have to sit in the waiting room and we would've been out of there much sooner except that her hip was unexpectedly difficult to fix, and who could predict that?
But it was all night, and "napping" on the bed was hard given how noisy hospitals are. So I'm gonna go get food, go eat food, and then go to SLEEP.
Night all!
