So I came up in the evening, winked at them, and declared that the books (a paperback Superhero ABC! Totally the best ABC book ever! and another Tacky the Penguin book... more on that in a bit) had been left in my shoes by mistake. Why, yes, I did go to the bookstore that day, why did they ask?

As planned, it's highly unlikely either one of them was taken in, though I do wish I'd remembered to leave their candy by the window.

Honestly, I don't understand the quest to "preserve children's innocence" sometimes, I really don't. Kids - at least the ones I know - don't like being ignorant "innocent", they don't like being treated like babies and children (even - nay, especially when they *are* babies and children!). Granted, it sometimes makes sense to withhold information from them just because, well, they *are* young, but... surely it doesn't have to be nearly everything...?

Of course, the problem comes when different people disagree about what is and is not good for a little one to know just yet, I guess.
