I mostly *have* been using the fitteds without a cover, because she mostly doesn't pee in them anyway, and I've found that when she does, while it soaks through, it just makes the pants wet - it doesn't leave a puddle on the floor. Since "puddle on the floor" is really really humiliating, and "wet pants" is just a change of clothing, I've been lazy about diaper covers except for long haul trips, emergencies with no bathroom nearby, and naptime.
Now, apparently, my mom has been bitching and moaning to my brother-in-law about the water bill. Not to me, of course, even though the cloth diapers were my idea, and I am the one who puts them on her. But then, it's better than her bitching and moaning to me about how he's the one wasting water, which is what I normally hear.
Well, guess what? The water bill is going up because we started paying it (which kinda makes a difference) and because the city is raising the rates (which definitely makes a difference), not because of the diapers. Evangeline hardly has an accident, and when she does what I do is I go around, to my mother, and ask her if she needs any clothes washed. She gives me all her dirties and I wash the diaper in that load. I do the same with my pads, though they take up more space, I think, than the diapers do.
Sheesh.
