I actually did well on my Latin final. As in, I not just had the passages memorized, but I was able to translate the ones I didn't (I think he snuck some in from the first half of the book, because I know I didn't read some of them recently).

Of course, I couldn't scan the damn things, but apparently neither could anyone else, and they couldn't on the midterm either, and, come to think of it, nobody ever got the scansion right in class either, so that's okay.

And, due to some good natured cheating, I now know that those words I didn't know are the same ones Michael and Tina didn't know, so that really IS good, because he can't possibly hold that against me when I didn't do worse than the rest of the class.

But mostly, I did well. I'm happy. I really am. I'm going to sit in awe.

Congratulations. Latin isn't and easy subject.

I took Latin at O'level - back in 1980. It was coupled with Classical Studies and Greek Mythology. I loved it. We had to translate the Iliad from Latin to English. Hard but fun. I got a grade B at the time and came top in my class. Not hard to do as there were only 8 of us in the whole school taking Latin.

I can't remember any of it now, though. I have the English version of the Iliad and The Odyssey but I've yet to read them. I think I actually enjoyed the challenge of translating, at the time.
