This is what I wanted to say about Star Wars, but didn't. There's some movies, or books, or TV shows you like because sometimes you want cotton candy for the mind. Star Wars can be placed firmly in that spot mihi, with a little extra enjoyment for watching other people's reactions to Star Wars.

More and more, I admire Cicero's simplicity.

Quam rem publicam habemus? (He goes on a bit about people who seek the destruction, he says, of the whole world.)

I made it very clear to the Congress that the use of federal money, taxpayers' money to promote science which destroys life in order to save life is I'm against that. And therefore, if the bill does that, I will veto it."

So, let me get this straight.

It's okay to destroy life for freedom. It's okay to destroy life for oil. It's okay to destroy life for money, for big cars, for the people who got you into office.

It's not okay to destroy life to save life.

I'm not sure which is worse - the idea that North Korea is moving ahead of us in any area, or the idea that this sentence could also sum up his views on, say, abortion - something a bit more close to home for most of us. He probably wouldn't apply this idea to gun control or anything like that, though. I think.

Go there at 5 to compile quotes, come back two hours later with no quotes, but an interesting observation about pirates.

The interesting observation is as follows:

There are a lot of reported female pirates in historical or legendary accounts. Even if you consider that, being unusual, they were more likely to be remembered... there's a lot of them.

Interesting.

Why would any channel take a show with so few episodes if they were only planning to run the re-runs...?

(There's an obvious answer to this question, of course. I've seen Firefly by now. Liked it well enough, though one or two of the episodes were Not Up To Par (yes, all those words are capitalized), though even those had their good points.)

Hurricane Adrian is the first hurricane of the year. That's why it has that cool A name. But when I asked how monsoons are named, I was told that they aren't. Why? Isn't a monsoon a hurricane in the other hemisphere that turns the wrong way round?

Edit: Apparently, I meant typhoons. D'oh. The question still stands.
