This time about webdesign I just don't like.

1. Moving text. This is okay if the "text" is an image, or if it's a slow moving news banner, but not if it's a link. Nobody really wants to play tag on your site.

2. Those things where it fades from one page to another. When I click a link, I want to just go to the new site, I don't want to sit and wait while a circle appears or it all pixelates into the new site.

3. Text that's constantly changing fonts, sizes, or from bold to italic to underlined to all three. If you want to emphasize something, good, pick ONE thing for emphasis and stick with it. Pick ONE font, too, it really causes eyestrain to have to keep switching.

4. Splash screens. Is that what they're called? The front page of a site where it plays a stupid animation with loud and/or obnoxious music and there's NO WAY TO AVOID IT, you just have to sit through it before you get to the information. Anything that you can skip past is okay, but if you can't, I don't want to see it.

5. White text on black background. That always gives me a headache.

That's about it. Thanks for reading. I'm tired.

Pretty much anything on a black background is bad.. Unless it's an image

If you user IE you can stop it from playing animation and sounds in web pages. Go to Tools, Internet options and Advanced. Then scroll down until you find it, remove tick from box.

It's what I do when on a shopping spree in Neo - I also take the tick out of the Show Pictures box. Pages load faster too.

lol...I didn't know that about default size and colour though. I might try that as I hate reading different coloured fonts.

#5 - I find it easier on the eyes. Irlen and all. Irlen loves white, hates black, so I give it less to "play" with and it's easier on the eyes.

Yes, I've heard that white on black causes less eyestrain an in particular is better when you're using the computer at night.

So much for my journal layout... :)

Yeah... I actually prefer reading white text on a dark background as well, at least on computer screens. (As if that weren't obvious from my own layout, heh.)

Maybe it just goes back to the fact that I'm an old-school MS-DOS geek, and did much of my work in WordPerfect 5 and WordStar when I was younger...

It's because white is a bright color.

I've noticed this while talking over AIM, the white backgrounds HURT.

I like black backgrounds with white text, myself. Less painful on the eyes.

I actually find it much easier to read white-on-black... I'd cite the [insert study here] that Storm keeps quoting about how it's allegedly better for you, but I (a) can't remember it and (b) can't see that it's any better than the more common black-on-white for folks w/o my particular vision problems.

I suspect it's because less light is emitted or less intense light or something. I don't get physics ;0)

Yeah... I'm night-blind; a lot of reflective white is actually pretty painful to look at (my pupils don't dilate as quickly as they should, or get stuck, sometimes... what fun) sometimes. But if someone had good light-level adjustment, they'd be fine otherwise, I suppose.

I actually knew the exact answer to this once... optics was the only part of physics I actually liked!

I agree with you, I always prefer white text over black (or any dark colour, really) I wish they had an option for it on fanfiction.net, because I cannot stare at the screen for too long with white backgrounds. There are worst things, like hideously ugly lime/neon/puke green backgrounds with yellow text, or animated backgrounds, which I can't stand.

I guess there goes my journal layout too lol. But I much prefer black background and white text. I usually am on the puter at night, and white backgrounds seriously bother my eyes.

I figure for journals, you're really the only one reading it on that page. So if it's comfortable for you, leave it.
