They stopped replying :(

So now I'm linking here. It's old, but still confusing. How can you honestly say that somebody doesn't make mistakes? Even if you mean this in the very specialized sense of "she doesn't make mistakes when writing her HP novels", you're still bound to be wrong. She's human. Really. And Harry Potter isn't gold. I like the books, sure, but they're as mistake-prone as anything else out there.

So, anybody care to list mistakes or near-mistakes in Harry Potter? Even trivial things like "I didn't like how she wrote this character" or "she makes the books too damn long" count, though not as much as "she misspelled a word" or "she has a continuity error".

In GoF, FakeMoody asked Dobby to pick up some of his robes for cleaning. Fair enough, Dobby can't exactly be freed this way. But in the next book, we find out that just picking up clothing can free a house elf. Or at least, Hermione thinks so, and she's usually right. Besides, the elves all think it's insulting.

So. Until Dobby got there, who did the laundry? Who does the laundry in Malfoy's house? I can hardly imagine that they do their own.

In GoF, two out of four contestents use the BubbleHead Charm to breathe underwater. That's 50%. We can assume from this that it's not completely obscure. And in the next book, virtually everybody used the charm because the halls stunk. While it can be argued that the use of this charm last year popularized it (meaning that some of these people didn't know about it the year before), it's fair to say it's an easy charm if the whole school can accomplish it.

Why didn't Hermione suggest it to Harry? Truly it has been said that Hermione is JKR's Mary Sue. She's the Wesley Crusher of the wizarding world. She knows everything. And she didn't know about a simple, probably-not-very-obscure spell that lets one breathe underwater? What?

Question!

When did Ireland become "everywhere"?

In other news, my uncle very nearly married his first cousin. Nobody had a problem with it. It was a non-event. Well, it would've been, if it'd been an event at all.

The image on my monitor is now vibrating all the time. Ew, headache. I managed to get around the problem by changing to 1024x728, but the fact is my monitor is too tiny to function properly at those settings either - I'm torn between tinytiny everything and shakingshaking everything.

Anybody have ANY advice?
