I pointed out that I dislike making fun of the Shrubboy's speech patterns because I vaguely feel they indicate some sort of learning disability rather than outright stupidity... Not that I think he's not stupid, but that his speech impediments aren't a sign of stupidity.

I'm not against learning disabilities or anything, but seriously, would you want a disabled (and I mean mentally... physically is different) man governing your money, jobs, social standing, marriages and life?

Well, yes, if I thought that he were retarded or insane (both of which probably holds true in this specific instance), but a LEARNING DISABILITY does NOT make one unable to lead! Neither does a "mental disability"... something which can encompass autism (duh), AD(H)D, depression, dyslexia, SLI, and other things.

Really. Reallyreally.

I was talking to Lizziey about her insane obsession with the Harry Potter movies (and need I remind you, Lizziey, that you wouldn't even touch those books for several years?), and I mentioned... fanfic. Specifically, I mentioned slash, and we spent an amusing few minutes coming up with the most ridiculous combinations possible, including Hagrid and Flitwick. *giggles* Neither of us has any clue how his dad got his mom pregnant, by the way. I mean... eeeeeeewwwwww!

Anyway, if anybody wants to tell Lizziey where she can find good (or bad) fanfic, her LJ is at [livejournal.com profile] lizziey (that's a shock, right?).

I believe the reason is "they're required to take a few pro bono cases", but at any rate you should never settle for blatantly illegal treatment. Never. And the reason people get away with this sort of crap is because nobody sues, nobody presses charges. Look, I hate this sue-happy nation too, seriously, but sometimes it's the only way to make the point. No court in the country would ever decide in favor of forced prayer in a public school (scroll to the comments). And given the ALREADY DECIDED illegality of the situation, five bucks says it'd be settled out of court. It's sitting around whining about how it's so bad that keeps things from changing!

Incidentally, I'm posting this as a public service. Some people really have no idea, they're not just making a conscious choice to settle. For those who have no idea, here's your chance.

I know where vegetarian comes from. And I know where vegan comes from. What I don't know is who decided "etari" means "and non-dead animal products".

Strangely, this thought was prompted by my burger. My food is psychotic. Or maybe just psychic.

I'm not a Biblical scholar. I don't even know that much about Christianity. I do, however, have a vague idea that somewhere in the New Testament Jesus says "the most important rule is that you love each other". I can think of several quotes which follow that theme of loving one another. Unfortunately, I can't cite chapter and verse.

I *can*, however, tell you where the most commonly quoted verse in the Bible comes from. And it's not the New Testament. Yes, it's that one that may or may not mean that God Hates Gays (thank you, crazy person!), and it's right by the verses that say God Hates Shrimp and God Hates Mixed Fabrics. Nobody worries about those, I guess.

Now, here's a problem. Either God is a hypocrite, or somebody is mistaken about what God really cares about. Or maybe God changed his mind. That's possible, isn't it? Well, if God can change his mind, wouldn't it be more reasonable to follow his more recent (not to mention explicit) commandments instead of the older, vaguer ones?
