And here I was thinking there was an actual woman today, working as a jeweller, living in a cave, who does this huge piece that totally deconstructs our ideas about gender roles and is creating a huge stir in the art world. :|

...now I just imagine this woman might have done that or similar back in her time. :V

Poor Eva; I hope she's feeling better today.

Why Smart People Are Stupid is interesting. My take on it is that people who are regarded as 'smart' by themselves and others have generally been heavily-influenced by the competitive public-school culture, in which praise and prestige come from being First With The Answer, even if it isn't always the right answer. Therefore, when asked a trick question, they make a guess instead of working it out, because they've got to get their hand up fast, or they might be perceived as not-smart.

That first question, about the ball and bat: obviously most of them weren't really paying attention, because srsly, in what Universe is it "intuitive" to say that $1.00 is a dollar more than $.10? If anything, what all this proves is that even people who got good grades have been so poorly-instructed in math that they don't really comprehend how it works, even on a basic-arithmetic level.

Because all the people doing the digging were men, so they thought.... Oh, but women can't lift heavy stuff. Oh, but metal is inherently such a MALE material to work with. What were they reading, Clan of the Cave Bear? Yep, that's Why Smart People Are Stupid!
