No more anthromorphizing things. It's okay if it's jokingkinda (my computer hates me, my bag ate my homework), but NOT seriously.

Nobody is in epilepsy's clutches. They are epileptic, affected by epilepsy, suffering from epilepsy, whatever, but epilepsy has no hands with which to clutch. It doesn't even have henchmen to clutch for it.

Nobody is a victim of Down's Syndrome. Down's Syndrome does not run up to people and punch them in the face. People have Down's Syndrome, are challenged by it, are special, I don't care, but nobody is a victim of Down's Syndrome.

Autism doesn't strike kids, nor snatch them away. Your kid was not knocked to the ground, and you know exactly where he/she is. Autism isn't lightning or a kidnapper.

Fate doesn't favor the bold, fate is just a fancy word for "what happens". Fate can't favor anything because FATE ISN'T A PERSON. Religion isn't oppressive, oppresive religious people are. Fast food isn't actually evil, it's just bad for you. Maybe the people who sell fast food are evil, but fast food is just an inanimate object.

And so on. It's really annoying.

I'm sad to say I've never heard the term anoretic. I think it's one case where the usage of anorexic as a noun has become too widespread. It's the same deal, though, as when someone says "the elderly." Things turn into nouns.. Hmph.

It's not a very wide spread term as far as I know, but that is how it's noted in most medical journals (well, the ones that are specifically about Eating Disorders anyway). I've also seen it spelled Anorectic, I think it depends on the country.

That's a common, and legitimate linguistic process. We talk about "the poor" or "the sick" and everyone knows we're talking about poor people or sick people. It saves a couple of syllables.
